What is Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition in which the body is unable to effectively regulate the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood. The body uses glucose as a source of energy, but it needs the hormone insulin to help transport glucose into the cells. In people with diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin (type 1 diabetes) or the cells do not properly respond to insulin (type 2 diabetes). As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being used by the cells, leading to high blood sugar levels. This can cause a range of symptoms, such as increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and a risk of serious complications such as heart disease, nerve damage, and blindness. There are several types of diabetes, including type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. It is a serious condition that requires ongoing management to prevent complications.
